Unit 4 Procedures

You should all read the syllabus once again, specifically the Unit 4 requirements.  You need to keep a list of all teaching you do.  It is a simple list saying when you taught, how long your lesson was, the number of the dancers and the type of class (social, beginner, advanced, children, mixed etc).  You should also get into the habit of writing down your lesson plan, even if brief.  After the class do some self criticism.  Decide if part didn't go well, of if you could have explained something better.  Then try to improve on that in a future lesson.  You need some of this for your detailed write up for Unit 4.  The Unit 4 Detail has to cover a total of 6 hours of teaching and be no longer than 8 pages of letter size paper.  You don't need detailed lesson plans but you do have to describe your lesson, how it went and how you could do better or how you did better.  I think there are some samples and further explanation on the Web in the Education and Training Section.  You also need a mentor who should see you teach once or twice.  The mentor is not there to tell you how to do your lesson but is someone you can pass ideas by, ask for suggestions or clarification on how to teach formations, dances etc.  The Mentor has to sign your Unit 4 paper saying that it is all your own work.

I am certainly here if you need to ask questions but I cannot be your (remote) mentor.  You have both Norma and Chuck in Madison and Lara plus others in Twin Cities.  The mentor has to be a fully qualified experienced RSCDS teacher.
